SINGAPORE--If you are hitting a roadblock trying to obtain funding for a project, try a test implementation on a small part of the business to prove your project's worth to management.

That was the advice from Kevin Ong, senior manager of application technology, information systems, Sony Asia-Pacific, who was sharing his company's experience in implementing SOA.

Noting the uphill struggle his team faced in justifying the SOA project's ROI (return on investment),  Ong said they decided to start small,  overhauling one of Sony's small repair hubs for the project.  Importantly he indicated SOA makes it easy for unconnected islands of IT services to be integrated.

Thanks to the success of this initial project, Sony's Asia-Pacific IT department plans to expand the implementation of SOA.
