Dear Ronald,

I love to hear about the latest and greatest emerging technologies, and Seed Forum International in New York City last week was full of 'em -- using your tongue to move the cursor around your computer screen? Detecting skin cancer "in a matter of minutes?" The 35-some investors were certainly intrigued.

The seven presenting entrepreneurs remained true to their ten minutes in the spotlight (unlike those presenting at the Yale Club the same day during the Starlight Capital and MJSegalAssociates Private Equity XVII: National Venture Forum). But some made the typical blunders: "We don't have any competition," and "This is a huge market" echoed throughout the Marco Polo Room at the Waldorf Astoria.

For angels who've been there and done that, such statements automatically eliminate an entrepreneur from the competition, no matter how spiffy the technology is.

So, entrepreneurs -- practice your pitches at the Thanksgiving dinner table among your friends, family and fools before getting in front of discerning angels!

Sincerely,
Kemila Velan
Editor
